LA Daily News:
"Federal regulators killed a rigorous examination of cancer in millions of Americans living near nuclear plants because they were convinced the study couldn’t link reactors to disease and would be too costly, newly released records show.
Doubts over the study’s usefulness ran deep at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the agency overseeing America’s aging fleet of nuclear plants. But some study skeptics pushed to save it nonetheless, arguing that modern science could help address public concerns over possible health risks related to the plants. They couldn’t convince their bosses, however, who concluded that the $8 million price tag for the pilot study ... couldn’t be justified.

The push for this new probe was driven by dissatisfaction with the U.S. government’s reliance on an unsophisticated 27-year-old study — employing even older data — to assure Americans there are no health risks associated with living near nuclear power plants.

Several recent European studies found disturbing links between childhood cancers and kids living close to nuclear plants, and NRC staffers traded emails citing them. A senior agency adviser dismissed the methodology used in those studies. “Publish or perish,” she wrote to her colleagues."

-->The NYT and our corporate controlled media do not want to spend one dime looking into links between cancer rates and nuclear plants. This is under the "see no evil" Democrats at the NRC. Of course, few media outlets covered the story.

Der Spiegel:
"Germany must stand up in opposition to the 45th president of the United States and his government. That's difficult enough already for two reasons: Because it is from the Americans that we obtained our liberal democracy in the first place; and because it is unclear how the brute and choleric man on the other side will react to diplomatic pressure. The fact that opposition to the American government can only succeed when mounted together with Asian and African partners -- and no doubt with our partners in Europe, with the EU -- doesn't make the situation any easier. ...

It is literally painful to write this sentence, but the president of the United States is a pathological liar. The president of the U.S. is a racist (it also hurts to write this). He is attempting a coup from the top; he wants to establish an illiberal democracy, or worse; he wants to undermine the balance of power. He fired an acting attorney general who held a differing opinion from his own and accused her of 'betrayal.' This is the vocabulary used by Nero, the emperor and destroyer of Rome. It is the way tyrants think."

-->Yes, The NYT did print an op-ed piece questioning Trump's tactics and referring to the cover of Der Spiegal, but what was written in German's most prominent magazine was the real story. The story that didn't get printed.

Common Dreams:
" 'It is hard not to laugh,' [Bernie] Sanders said, 'to see President Trump sitting alongside these Wall Street guys. This guy ran for the President of the United States saying, I'm Donald Trump and I'm gonna take on Wall Street—these guys are getting away with murder... But suddenly he appoints all these billionaires; his major financial adviser comes from Goldman Sachs; and now he's gonna dismantle legislation that protects consumers. This is a guy who ran for president saying, I'm the only Republican who's not going to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid—and then he appoints all of these guys who are precisely going to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.'

And so, Sanders continued, 'I hope those that all of those folks who voted for Mr. Trump—because they thought he would stand up for working people—man... and he's a good showman, I will give him that... but I think he's gonna sell out the middle class and the working class of this country.' "

-->Powerful words to the American people. Of course, the story wasn't printed in the NYT.
